What is Gray MedPrep?

Performance Coaching, Not More ContentGray MedPrep provides specialist one-to-one performance coaching for medical licensing examinations. Rather than simply teaching more content, sessions focus on identifying what is limiting your performance and developing practical strategies to improve question interpretation, decision-making, timing, and confidence under exam conditions.Using The Gray Method™, coaching focuses on helping students think more efficiently under examination conditions rather than simply study longer.

USMLE Step 1 Performance Coaching

Preparing for Step 1 is about more than learning medicine. Many students reach a point where they are studying harder than ever but their NBME scores stop improving. Others consistently run out of time, overthink questions, or struggle to translate their knowledge into exam performance.Gray MedPrep provides one-to-one performance coaching designed to identify what is limiting your progress. Rather than simply teaching more content, sessions focus on improving decision-making under exam conditions through structured question analysis, efficient review strategies, and practical approaches to tackling NBME-style questions.Using The Gray Method™, we work together to identify whether your greatest barrier is knowledge, question interpretation, timing, review strategy, or exam confidence. Every session is tailored to your individual needs and provides practical strategies that you can apply immediately to your question bank and future practice exams. This service is particularly suited to students who have plateaued despite sustained study, are preparing for an upcoming NBME or CBSE, have previously failed or deferred Step 1, or simply want to develop a more efficient approach to learning before exam day.

About Dr Christian Gray

I'm Dr Christian Gray, a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education, an immunologist, and the founder of Gray MedPrep. For more than a decade, I've taught medical students and designed learning programs that prepare students for high-stakes medical licensing examinations. For the past seven years, I've led a university-based USMLE Step 1 preparation program supporting North American medical students. During that time, I've worked with more than 600 students preparing for Step 1 and have developed a deep understanding of the challenges students face when their scores plateau despite sustained effort. My academic background is in immunology, allergy, and hypersensitivity, some of the highest-yield areas in Step 1, and I have contributed chapters to Cambridge University Press publications on preparing for and sitting medical licensing examinations. As an immunologist and medical educator, rather than a practising clinician, I've spent my career helping students understand complex scientific concepts, recognise patterns in disease, and translate foundational science into clinical reasoning. That perspective has shaped the way I coach students, with an emphasis on efficient thinking, pattern recognition, and making better decisions under exam conditions rather than simply learning more content.Alongside my work in medical education, I have extensive experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including neurodivergent learners. I believe there is no single "correct" way to study for Step 1. Every student brings different strengths, challenges, and ways of processing information. My coaching begins by understanding how you learn before developing a personalised strategy that builds on your strengths. This philosophy led me to develop The Gray Method™, a structured coaching framework that helps students approach licensing examination questions more efficiently through triage, focused decision-making, and structured question review. Rather than simply teaching more medicine, my goal is to help students understand why they are getting questions wrong and provide practical strategies that translate knowledge into improved exam performance.

The Gray Method™

Triage. Decide. Learn. The Gray Method™ is a structured coaching framework designed to help students approach medical licensing examination questions more efficiently.Rather than beginning with long differential diagnoses or extensive content recall, students learn to rapidly identify what the examination is actually testing, make confident decisions using the most important clinical clues, and review questions in a way that improves future performance. The framework is built around three simple stages:

TriageIdentify the category of question, the underlying mechanism or localisation, and the single deciding clue that separates the correct answer from the distractors.DecideAsk which diagnosis or mechanism best explains all of the important findings. Commit once you have enough evidence rather than continuing to overanalyse every alternative.LearnReview completed questions using SHARP to identify why the question was missed, develop a transferable rule, and strengthen future performance.
